Solar Impulse 2 public event on May 28 has additional tickets

First airplane to fly around the world without using fuel will be on display on Saturday

Allentown, PA – The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority has been notified by Solar Impulse that Saturday’s public event has additional tickets.  For those individuals interested in registering for a ticket, check the Solar Impulse website: solarimpulse.com. or use this link: https://si2publicvisitlehighvalley.eventbrite.com

The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Parking will be limited.

Solar Impulse 2 – the electric plane – powered entirely by solar panels attempting to become the first airplane to fly around the world without using fuel landed at Lehigh Valley International Airport on Wednesday night. There is no timetable on the duration of the stay.

“We are one of six airports across the United to States to welcome Solar Impulse and secure our place in aviation history” said Charles Everett, executive director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority.

The aircraft requires near-perfect conditions to fly. Its four electric engines are powered by more than 17,000 solar cells built into its lightweight, super-strong carbon fiber wings. The pioneers of this journey are Bertrand Piccard,

Solar Impulse initiator, chairman and pilot, who had the vision to fly around the world without fuel, and Andre Borschberg, co-founder, CEO and also pilot, who led the team in designing and constructing the solar airplane. In March 2015, Solar Impulse began its solar journey from Abu Dhabi and has traveled to Oman, India, Myanmar, China and Japan, Hawaii and California. It is now mid-way across the United States, heading to New York to position for the crossing of the Atlantic and is due to arrive back in Abu Dhabi by late July.
