The “Striker” Demonstration

Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) unveils emergency response vehicle at LVIA

Hanover Township, PA – The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Division announced the arrival of a 2017 OshKosh “Striker” 6×6 ARFF vehicle for emergency response at Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA).

Designated “Rescue 1,” the new OshKosh Striker 6×6 ARFF vehicle will replace “Rescue 3”, another OshKosh ARFF vehicle which has been in service at LVIA since 1996.  The LNAA received an Airport Improvement Program grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to complete the $807,251.00 Striker acquisition.

“At first glance, you can see dramatic differences between this new OshKosh Striker and our older OshKosh vehicle; with the Striker providing our firefighters the latest advancements to aid in their response to airport emergencies,” said Thomas Stoudt, Director, Operations and Safety, LNAA.

The Striker 6×6 vehicle is fully equipped with a 3,000 gallon water storage tank, 450 pounds of Potassium based dry chemical and 420 gallons of foam.  Some of the vehicle’s impressive features includes a high reach extendable and low attack turret (both containing Hydro-Chem  nozzles), a FLIR (forward looking infrared camera) and a piercing tool that can penetrate the skin of a commercial, general aviation or cargo aircraft.

“Airports don’t have fire hydrants on the airfield, which means ARFF must rapidly transport the necessary water supply directly to an emergency and this top of the line response vehicle further enhances the safety of our passengers,” said Charles Everett, Executive Director, LNAA.
