27,612 passengers trust ABE for summer travel
(Hanover Township, PA) – For a third consecutive month, passenger traffic improved at your neighborhood airport, but the COVID-19 pandemic has still delivered a significant blow to summer travel.
Last month, 27,612 passengers traveled through Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) – a 70.7 percent decrease from July ’19.
“COVID-19 cases jumped following the Memorial Day weekend, and air travel certainly felt an immediate impact as momentum stalled with several coronavirus hotspots impacting many destinations from ABE. A slight uptick brings a welcomed change as we remain confident that anyone choosing our facility trusts the health and safety procedures in place to protect them,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.

By the numbers, Delta reported a significant passenger traffic decrease of 92.2%, United dropped 90.5%, American was down 63.8%, and Allegiant declined by 59.2%.
Currently, Delta service to Atlanta (ATL) is expected to return in October while American flights to Philadelphia (PHL) remain suspended indefinitely. United restarted shuttle service to Newark (EWR), while their service to Chicago (ORD) is suspended until September 30th.
Lehigh Valley International Airport maintained its critical role in helping the region overcome the pandemic with 14,830,660 pounds of air cargo processed in July – a jump of 7.8% from July ‘19.
