Traffic Ticks Up at ABE

March 22nd, 2021 |

26,299 passengers choose your neighborhood airport in February

(Hanover Township, PA) – As COVID-19 restrictions are being rescinded, passenger traffic remains steady relative to pandemic travel levels at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE).

26,299 passengers used ABE in February 2021 – a 62.8 percent decline from Feb. 2020.

“More cars are parked in the lots outside our Main Terminal than over the previous 11 months, and processing at the TSA checkpoint has been busier for flights heading to leisure destinations. We are cautiously optimistic that a turnaround is approaching as more people are vaccinated,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, LNAA.

By the numbers, Delta reported a passenger traffic decrease of 67.7%, United dropped 65.4%, Allegiant declined by 61.4%, and American was down 60.5%.

“Capacity levels continue to increase with airlines returning popular nonstop routes to the Lehigh Valley. Beyond more flights to Atlanta in the coming weeks, Allegiant is kicking off seasonal service to Myrtle Beach on April 15th, while American and United have fully restored service to their hubs,” said Stoudt.

14,299,887 pounds of air cargo was processed through Lehigh Valley International Airport in February – a slight decrease of 14.74% from Feb. 2020.

“Air cargo carriers at ABE were certainly impacted by the one-two punch of the Lehigh Valley’s second snowiest February on record, which included the second biggest snowstorm on record for our area,” said Stoudt.
