All proceeds on Saturday, October 13th benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley
Takeoff down the runway at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) to support those fighting cancer by lacing up your running shoes.
On Saturday, October 13th, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley (PCFLV) are teaming up for the 2nd Annual “Winged Warriors” 5K Run/Walk on the Runway.
Due to safety and security regulations, the field is limited to 500 participants. Registration includes a $25 fee (before race day) and $35 fee (day of the event). You can sign-up by visiting www.flyabe.com. (Remember, space is limited).
“In an effort to give even more people the opportunity to takeoff down the runway, we’ve decided to more than double the number of runners that can participate in this year’s unique Airport experience,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority.
This is a “lollipop” course which includes running or walking along the taxiways and 1/3 mile on the runway.
Race Day Details:
7:00 a.m. – Registration
8:00 a.m. – Run / Walk Begins
*On race day, participants should enter and park at 150 Fashion Drive South, Allentown, Pa.
“Since January of this year, 23 additional families have registered with our foundation, so receiving proceeds from this event will allow us to assist these new families and continue to help all of our local pediatric cancer patients and their families,” said Lisa Kappes, Senior Manager, Community Development, American Cancer Society, Inc.
Proceeds from the “Winged Warriors 5K Run/Walk” event will not only provide financial assistance for programs and services right here in the Lehigh Valley, but also enables the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley to award college scholarships to pediatric cancer warriors, host a week-long summer camp called “Camp Smile” and operate the Adopt-A-Family program to assist with gift-buying for the Holiday Season, and much more.
