Allentown, PA – Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA) and Braden Airpark (Northampton County) are among nine airports that will receive the assistance of $10 million in state investments to make safety upgrades and expand aviation operation opportunities.

On Tuesday, the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority was awarded $6 million to develop a 53,000 square foot hangar on the southwest portion of the airfield for corporate jets and general aviation aircraft at LVIA. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $12 million with completion expected in late 2018.

“This will not only bring more aircraft activity to the Lehigh Valley, but can create jobs and businesses in our community,” said Charles Everett, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority.

Additionally, the Airport Authority received $325,000 to construct a general aviation terminal at Braden Airpark in Forks Township.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced the award of these funds which are administered by PennDOT’s Bureau of Aviation through the Aviation Transportation Assistance Program, which is a capital budget grant program funded with bonds.

“We are extremely grateful for the strong support of Governor Wolf and all of our state legislators in demonstrating their commitment to the future of aviation,” said Everett.
