LNAA and LANta Continue to Improve Traffic Patterns at LVIA

May 21st, 2014 |

ALLENTOWN, PA – Officials at the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority continue to hold safety and security as one of the highest priorities at LVIA. Due to this, arrangements have been made to alleviate some of the congestion on the “Arriving Flights”, or lower level terminal traffic area.

Beginning Tuesday, May 27, persons utilizing LANta public transit out of LVIA will be using a brand new bus shelter just outside the last set of doors on the second level of the main terminal, or the departing flights traffic area. “Safety and security is our number one priority”, said Charles Everett, Executive Director of LNAA. “By moving the LANta Bus Stop upstairs to the second level traffic area, we are mitigating hazards associated with crowds and traffic. Our goal is to keep our passengers, employees and tenants safe as they enter and exit the terminal”.

As the partnership between LNAA and LANta continues to grow, LVIA will position itself to become a heavy transfer area for out both in and out of market traffic. The relocation of this high-quality LANta bus shelter is the first step in LVIA’s long-term goals. LVIA currently acts as a transfer point between four LANta bus routes- 105 between South Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley Mall, 210 from the South Mall to the Lehigh Valley Mall, 215 to South Bethlehem and 219 to Egypt.

It is anticipated that transfer activity at the airport will increase significantly in the immediate term due to the potential development of the new FedEx Ground facility and the LVIP VIII industrial park.  “LANta will design its services in a way that meets the needs of the complicated demand patterns that will result.  To access existing and new developments in the airport area, transit passengers will be using LANta bus routes to travel to the various employment locations in the airport area”, said LANta Director of Planning, Owen O’Neil. “Accordingly, LANta anticipates the need for additional routes to serve LVIA and different locations in the surrounding area.  These improvements at the LVIA transit stop will provide a more attractive and comfortable location at which transit riders can make these connections”.

Current improvements to the transit stop at Lehigh Valley International Airport are consistent with LANta’s 12-year strategic plan: Moving LANta Forward.
